Content Attribution & Licenses

Artwork on this website

The paintings shown on our homepage are faithful reproductions of works in the public domain, retrieved from Wikimedia Commons:

These works are no longer under copyright. Images are served via Wikimedia Commons; we are grateful to the institutions and volunteers who digitize and host them.

Artwork in Musea

Musea displays artwork retrieved on demand from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons through their public APIs. The vast majority of paintings in these collections are in the public domain — the artists' copyrights have expired — and may be freely viewed and displayed.

Where an image on Wikimedia Commons carries a license instead (such as a Creative Commons license on a photograph of an artwork), Musea displays the work together with the license and attribution information provided by Wikimedia, and use remains subject to that license's terms. Musea does not claim ownership of any artwork it displays, and displays each work alongside the artist, title, and source information available from Wikipedia.

If you are a rights holder and believe content accessible through Musea is presented in error, please contact us at the address in our Privacy Policy and we will review it promptly.

Music

The music in Musea consists of royalty-free and openly licensed tracks, used in accordance with their license terms. Credits:
